I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post....completely awful! I am so sorry! I was sick with a migraine that lasted entirely too long (multiple days... a first for everything!) and an ugly cold! I also have had to dive into my studies full speed ahead for this semester, so thank you for bearing with me!
In my head I have been click-clacking away imagining that I was writing to you about commitment.
Preface: My husband helps out another church when they are in need of worship musicians. So, a few weeks ago, my youngest son and I went to this church to check it out (it's a foursquare church for those of you wondering). I saw familiar faces, which is always comforting, and then was completely in awe of the sermon for the day. It was about relational commitment, specifically marital and spiritual!
A panel of speakers, which consisted of couples in different stages of marriage, took turns reading scripture and sharing their stories.
Now the Commitment Part: At the end of the teaching the pastor spoke of the 40 Days To Purpose their church was embarking upon. This is different from the 40 Days OF Purpose my home church has done. This particular purpose is sculpted around prayer and fasting. The ushers passed around bracelets for anyone who wanted to participate, to take and slide on their wrist. If you know me, you know I took one. The scripture on the bracelet is ACTS 1:8 "..live a spirit filled life.." I chose to commit to something for 40 days. What I chose for fast has something to do with a character flaw that I want to change, specifically pertaining to my character as a mother and wife. I have been successful for 17 days so far!! My oldest son is shocked and amazed that I have not only kept the bracelet on my wrist all this time, but that I have kept my commitment. My act of commitment has been a testimony to my own son, thank you JESUS!! I don't know if I even want to remove this goofy rubber bracelet, it really is a physical reminder to my commitment. Just like a wedding ring on a finger.
So, my NUTRITIONAL GOAL for all of you is based around your spirit today. If you want to renew a commitment or create a new commitment, do it! Find a piece of string, rubber bracelet, or anything you can physically tie around your wrist to remind and refresh you of your current commitment goal (consider yourself as doing a spiritual fast). I promise you will feel such a sense of renewal and your spirit will be refreshed! You can consider this phase of your commitment a fast, as you are wearing something to remind you of it and you are working hard to change!
My recipe for you today:
Always look up when you are in doubt;
Slow down enough to appreciate what is around you;
Kiss your loved ones;
Stop, make eye contact, and listen when your spouse or child is speaking to you;
Take care of yourself spiritually as well as physically.
I love you all and am thankful for you!
Blessings,
Wendie
