So Much In My Head Today...

I forgot to mention in my January 22nd post, if you are counting your calories for your body weight, don't forget to subtract the calories you burn from a workout or run.  If you are maintaining your weight, you can eat that many more calories, if you are trying to lose weight, you have just burned that many more...so wonderful how that works!

Two super easy ways to lose a bit of body fat (up to 10 pounds!):
     1.  Stop Drinking Soda, including diet soda (that is worse for you than regular!)
          *  If you are drinking soda you are drinking a carbohydrate-filled drink filled with cancer-causing
               ingredients!
     2.  Eliminate cheese from your diet!
           * This is toughest for me to do(!), but it really leans your body out.
Charleze Theron (sp?) adds cheese to her diet when she needs to gain weight for movies.
We really don't need cheese, an enzyme in our brain just makes us think we do!

My lunch today:
Chopped Salad
*Heart of Romaine lettuce
* Shredded carrots
*Cucumber
*Red Onion
*Tomato
*Avocado
*Roast turkey
I chopped everything into little cubes and tossed it.  I topped it with a little of Trader's Joe's ranch dressing and a lot of salt and pepper.  Yum, Yum!

Here is a wonderful recipe from a wonderful person.....my dear sister-in-law Tricia:
White Chicken Chili (she brought this to super bowl and shared the recipe with me!)
*White beans
*Shredded chicken
*Canned or fresh green chilies
*Salt and pepper
*Seasonings to taste
Soak your beans for a day and a night,  rinse and put in your crock pot.  Add chicken, these can be raw chicken breasts that you shred after they have cooked, then add the green chilies.  Cover all ingredients with water.  Add seasonings.  Put crock on to cook for the day.
This is really delicious and low in calories!

I have to go to class now.  Have a beautiful evening!

Milk of the Cow or Milk of the Bean?

I know most of you are more than likely cow milk drinkers.  I was for many, many years.  About 9 years ago I switched to soy milk because of my first born son.  He was allergic to my breast milk because of my cow milk intake.  His poor cheeks were so rashed and cracked all the time!  Once I changed my intake to soy milk, his skin cleared up beautifully (it only took me 9 months to realize that.....my poor baby!).  It turned out that he had a food allergy to both proteins in cow milk!  He is a soy kid.  From that, my entire household now drinks soy milk.....even my husband, can you believe that?  My second born is a soy milk drinker simply because he knows no different.  I now alternate their intake between soy and rice milk.

Did you know we, the human race, are the only species that drink the milk of another species.  Every other species drinks their own milk!  If you were able to nurse your babies, yeah for you!  You allowed your babies to have the milk they deserve!  I encourage you from the depths of my soul to try another type of milk if you are a cow milk drinker. If you don't like it, try it again.  If you don't like it that time, try it again.  If you don't like it that time, try it again....do you get my drift here?  Eventually you will acquire a taste for another type of milk.  I have been drinking soy milk for so long now that cow milk tastes sour to me.  There is absolutely NOTHING in cow milk that is any good for you.  The good that is in it has been added (fortified) by scientists to keep the dairy industry afloat...the vitamin D and Calcium are all added to it!  Please, oh please leave those poor cows alone.  The milk of a cow is meant for a cow...novel idea, isn't it!
Don't worry, if you still choose to drink cow milk, I will still be your friend....you know that!  I just may "moo" at you every once in a while!

American Food....or should I say American business...

Hi Friends,
I watched the documentary Food Inc. over the weekend.  I think everyone (did I say everyone?) should watch this!  This is a documentary about how food in America is a business and is controlled by 4 major companies.  Do you think they care about our wellness?  Here's a hint....next time you are out in public, take a look at how many obese individuals you notice (those poor souls).  That will give you the answer to how the FDA and USDA care about our wellness.  You can order this movie on Amazon.com or borrow it from me (I will add you to my list of borrowers).

One major thing I must make clear,  if you are a meat eater....I know I told  you to look for steroid free meat.  You need to also make sure your meat is grass-fed, NOT corn-fed!  It is unreal what corn does to the animals that eat, as their systems are not made to digest corn.....say hello to E.Coli!  Oh please, please watch Food Inc., you will understand me even more!

As I have said before, I URGE you to be a label reader.  You and your children have the right to know exactly what is going into your body! If not for yourself, do if for me.  Read those labels, it will just make me feel better!

I have so much more to share, but do not want to overwhelm you, so I will save them for future posts.

My lunch today:
A sandwich made of:
*2 slices whole wheat bread
*1/2 avocado, sliced
*2 big slices tomato
*alfalfa sprouts
*eggless mayo spread
*sunflower seeds (if you them!)
*salt and pepper
Toast the bread, add the spread and sliced ingredients, add your sprouts and seeds.  Enjoy!
My mom started making me this sandwich when I was 14 years old.  I have always loved it and hope you will give it a try!

Mucho gusto!
